Anything is Possible

Sometimes during yoga class, my body says, “Just what in the hell are you trying to do with me?” and then I fall out of the pose.

Seems there is this mind/body connection thingy, where the mind has to be able to conceive of it before the body can actually do it.

Today, we practiced standing on our heads. You clasp your hands and put your forearms on the floor in a V-formation. Then you stick the top of your head in the middle of the V. Then you keep your back ramrod straight and your legs come off the floor and swing upward. At least, that’s what the teacher did. But as I was posed there with my head pressed against the floor, my mind said, “Oh, so that’s how it feels,” and my neck didn’t crink up as it usually does and I got to the point where I could almost lift my toes off the floor. That’s how it starts.

So maybe, just maybe, in a few months I’ll be able to stand on my head. Okay, so maybe in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t such a big deal. On the other hand, if I can do that, what else can I do?
